Shelena is made of a mixture of non-phthalate PVC and a bio-based material upcycled with surf clam shells, containing bioplasticizer.
Discarded shells
Seafood processing plants and restaurants dispose of large amounts of shells everyday, and the disposal incurs costs.
Upcycling "waste"
Instead of discarding surf clam shells in abundance in Fukushima Prefecture, they are used as a raw material instead of conventional industrial chemicals, and ultimately Shelena evolved. By increasing the bio-based content, Shelena has become synthetic leather with a strong focus on a waste reduction and upcycle.
