Aplena
BIO Vegan Leather
Creatively reuse apple juice pomace.
A bio-based material made in Japan that can contribute to the effective use of industrial waste and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

Massive food residue
Aomori Prefecture is the singular producing center of roughly 60% of the annual apple harvest in Japan. The Farm Village Industry Federation of Aomori Prefectural Agricultural Cooperatives ("JA Aoren") processes 18,000 tons (approx. 40 million lb) of apple juice each year, which generates more than 5,000 tons (approximately 11 million lb) of pomace.

Turning pomace into bio-based materials
After apple juice, skin and core are left as residue. A new bio-based material is then created by upcycling such residue, which would otherwise be discarded. As a biomass raw material the bio-based material is blended into the resin layer.
